Goat Paddock Crater
Coordinates: 18 ° 20 ′ 0 ″ S , 126 ° 40 ′ 20 ″ E
Goat Paddock is the name for a 5 km large impact crater in the Kimberley region of Western Australia . Quartz glass , cones of rays and shocked quartz crystals were found in the almost circular depression , which are considered evidence of a meteorite impact . Boreholes show that the crater is filled with approx. 200 m thick lake sediments . Pollen finds in the deposits prove that the crater was at least 50 million years old. From the slightly oval shape of the terrain structure, it is concluded that the meteorite came at a flat angle from the north or south.
