The club's boathouse

The Godesberger Kanu-Club 1932 e. V. is a German sports club based in the southern Bonn district of Bad Godesberg .

The club grounds on the Rhine are not far from the Rüngsdorf swimming pool (km 646.2). Therefore the Rhine is the main training water. The association operates canoeing in the areas of canoe slalom , canoeing , white water paddling and canoe marathon .

Club life

There is a boathouse on the club's premises . Young and old meet there not only for sport, but also for social activities. Taster courses are offered for those who are interested, and later on, beginners paddling techniques can be deepened or Eskimo and rescue courses can be taken. Even the youngest can learn to paddle during children's training. As a recreational sport, especially in winter, circuit training, gymnastics, ball games, strength training, table tennis or badminton are alternated. There are also communities for skiing, boules and hiking.

history

Long before the club was founded, young people from Godesberg met and built their little canoes for paddling together. Boat building and repairing was an important part of the activity back then, as there were few boats to buy and they were unaffordable. On June 13, 1932, 33 like-minded people met and founded the GKC, mainly to build a boat hall together. After several intermediate stops, the association moved into its current boathouse in 1954, which had been built almost exclusively by members of voluntary service within 4 years.

One of the most famous former athletes of the club is Roswitha Esser , who won the gold medal in the racing kayak at the Olympic Games in 1964 and also had great successes afterwards. In addition to Esser, other active members of the club also brought German championship titles to the club in the course of history.

DKV canoe station

The GKC is a DKV canoe station and welcomes guest paddlers upon prior registration.
