The Goethe-Freilichtbühne Porta Westfalica , also commonly known as the open-air stage Porta or Portabühne , is an amateur theater stage in the district of Barkhausen in the East Westphalian city ​​of Porta Westfalica in North Rhine-Westphalia . The natural theater between steep cliffs in the Wiehen Mountains offers space for 644 spectators.

The Porta open-air theater was founded in 1927 by Dr. Hollo and opened with Friedrich Hebbel's tragedy “ The Nibelungs ”.

While Nazism was from 1933 into line and the propaganda ministry assumed. National Socialist events took place here and National Socialist ideas were spread.

When the stage was reestablished after the war in 1954, the company relied on independence in the sponsorship of a registered association (Freilichtbühne Porta Westfalica eV). Today it has almost 1000 members.

The spectator area has been completely covered since 2011.

In 2018 the open-air theater celebrated its 90th anniversary.

Today it is played on the main stage in the former quarry in Barkhausen, in the winter season at other venues in the region, such as the Stadttheater Minden , the Bürgerzentrum Minden , the Theater am Weingarten Minden and the Kurtheater Bad Oeynhausen. In addition to the main piece (performance on Saturday evening), the repertoire has always included a children's piece (performance on Sunday afternoon) since the 1970s.

As a rule, a children's play and an evening play are played in the summer season, and there are several special events in and outside the playing season.

The open-air stage usually alternates between modern and traditional, but also between well-known classics and unknown pieces.
