Goethe Link Observatory

The Goethe Link Observatory is an observatory near the small town of Brooklyn in the US state of Indiana . The observatory is owned by Indiana University and operated by the Indiana Astronomical Society .

Construction of the observatory began in 1937. The telescope was first put into operation in 1939. The name was given in honor of Goethe Link, a doctor from Indianapolis , Indiana, who had the observatory built with his private funds. 1948 gave Link the observatory as a donation to the University of Indiana.

A number of asteroids were discovered at the Goethe Link Observatory . These are listed at the Minor Planet Center (MPC) under "Indiana University", which carried out the Indiana Asteroid Program here from 1949 to 1967 . In honor of the founder, one of the asteroids discovered here was named (1728) Goethe Link .
