history

During the First Civil War in South Sudan , the Anya Nya rebels carried out an attack on Gogrial in the mid-1960s. This attack contributed to the fact that the North Sudanese Misseriya turned against the South Sudanese Dinka .

In the second war, Gogrial was initially under the control of the government army, which maintained a supply station here. 1994-1998 troops of the warlord Kerubino Kuanyin Bol , which were supported by the government from Gogrial, fought against the rebels of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA). In the course of the fighting, numerous Dinka civilians were driven from the area and there was famine. On June 24, 2000, the SPLA took Gogrial, and on June 29, 2001, the army retook the city. The SPLA later conquered Gogrial again; According to a report by US journalist Jon Saywer, the site was under the control of the SPLA and completely destroyed in early 2002.
