Bernardo Bellotto: House "The Golden Sun" at Neustädter Markt 5 in Dresden

The Golden Sun was a residential building at Neustädter Markt 5 in Dresden . It was destroyed in 1945.

history

The information on the construction date of the house fluctuates between 1727 and 1750. Hertzig assumes that the house was built in the years 1737/1739 for the Bader Elias Bauriedel.

description

The building was four storeys high, the facade divided into seven axes. A template three axes wide adorned the facade and was specially decorated. The house sign of the building - the keystone with the relief of the golden sun - was recovered when the rubble was cleared.

Art historical significance

It was one of the “most beautiful and earliest buildings in the Knoeffel style”. The architecture was "of great refinement". Fritz Löffler sees Andreas or Samuel Locke as design architects. Hertzig is of the opinion that Hasche, who also starts from Andreas Adam, could have mistaken the “Pfundische Haus am Markt” for the “Golden Sun”. Hertzig himself also suspects Andreas Adam to be a design architect. This is due to the elaborate Rocailles decoration and the shape of the suspensions, which can be found in a very similar form in the Dresden Hotel “Stadt Rom” and in the Adamsche House . For both buildings - Hotel "Stadt Rom" and Adamsche's House - Adam has been secured as the design architect. The quality of the architecture also made a master builder in the vicinity of the Dresden court - Andreas Adam - seem possible.
