The Golden Cross is a historicist residential and commercial building at Lichtentaler Straße 13 (on Augustaplatz) in Baden-Baden . It was built from 1891 to 1893 according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Vittali (1859–1920). The five-story, neo-baroque street facade is made entirely of white sandstone from the Murg Valley . The pillars and pavement at the entrances on the ground floor are made of Swedish granite. The facades in the courtyard are faced with brick, windows and door frames are designed with white Murgtal sandstone.

history

The building from the end of the Wilhelminian era was built on the site of an inn of the same name. When the building was completed in the 19th century, the first floor housed the shops and the upper floors the living rooms. The business premises on the right-hand side were used by the owner as exhibition and storage rooms. Both rooms were provided with continuous galleries. The building owner's factory buildings and storage areas were connected to the wing. The business premises on the left, including the wing, were used for the restaurant. From 1982 to 1984 an extensive basic renovation and redesign took place, it was the first large renovation property of the project developer Jürgen Schneider for a purchase price of 5 million DM.
