Gold varnish or gold lacquer is a varnish that is used as a coating for objects made of wood , such as strips and mirror frames, and for metal objects.

A shellac solution in ethanol is used as the solvent , which is given a reddish or yellow color by adding rubber gum , dragon's blood , acaroid resin , sandalwood extract .

All solutions, if not completely clear, are filtered and then mixed.
