Christian Gotthold Eschenbach

Christian Gotthold Eschenbach ( November 24, 1753 in Leipzig ; † November 5, 1831 there ) was a German physician, chemist and university professor.

Life

Christian Gotthold Eschenbach was born as the son of Christoph Elias Gottlieb Eschenbach, Saxon court trimmers . His brother was the mathematician, translator and engineer Hieronymus Christoph Wilhelm Eschenbach (born March 30, 1764 in Leipzig, † March 7, 1797 in Madras ).

Christian Gotthold Eschenbach studied at the University of Leipzig and received his Baccalaureus in 1776 ; In 1783 he received his doctorate in medicine. In 1784 he received, in place of Anton Riediger, a chair as a professor of chemistry at the University of Leipzig and was in 1797 a member of the medical faculty. On June 30, 1805, he set up the first chemical laboratory at the University of Leipzig, which was housed in the premises of a former pub on the Pleißenburg , and headed it; until then he was dependent on the use of private laboratories.

Act

He wrote some original works and made many foreign translations, especially from English. He established various foundations, including a foundation with 1,600 thalers for medical students at the University of Leipzig. In addition, in 1831 he donated 1000 Taler to the Thomas School to set up a new position for an alumnus .
