Gurr is a German indie / rock duo, consisting of the two musicians Andreya Casablanca and Laura Lee. The Musikexpress assigns the music to American slacker pop . The band itself gives Jeff the Brotherhood and the Stone Roses as influences . At the end of 2016, the Berlin based women released their debut album In My Head .

2012: foundation

Andreya Casablanca (bourgeois Andrea Wieczorek) from Nuremberg and Laura Lee (bourgeois Laura Friedrich) from near Oldenburg met each other in 2012 while studying North American Studies in Berlin and decided to make music together. They stayed separately in the United States for a year until they got together as Gurr for a few weeks and played a small tour of the east coast and the midwest of the United States.

In her youth Lee did ten sing , played the Casablanca recorder and flute. Casablanca's parents are from Poland. With the band LA Crash Casablanca released an EP and with the band No Fun! the album How I Spent My Bummer Vacation . For a report about her year abroad in California, she won the Fuerth “Hört Hört!” Competition in 2014 in the group of 20-26 year olds.

Back in Berlin, the two recorded their first EP Furry Dream , which was released on April 22, 2015. The duo toured numerous German cities with their EP in spring 2016.

2016: Walnuts , Moby Dick and In My Head

As a harbinger of the debut album In My Head , the single Moby Dick and then Walnuts were released in June 2016 . In September 2016 Gurr played at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and finally established themselves as a German newcomer act. On October 14, 2016, Mischkah Wilke's debut album, recorded in Berlin, was released on Duchesse Box Records. The album was consistently received positively by the German trade press. So the music magazine writes intro : "Garagiger Rock 'n' Roll shines through perfectly matched singing [...] and a knack for well-fitting melodies." Even Stereogum editor in chief Scott Lapatine commissions them Stereogums Top 10 Songs of the Year 2016 .

2017–2018: International appearances and festivals

In January 2017, Gurr presented themselves to the international trade press at the Eurosonic / Noorderslag industry festival in Groningen. Before touring in Germany, the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom from April to November 2017, they played a small tour in Austin at the renowned SXSW film and music festival . Another milestone was the visit to the BBC Radio1Radio host Huw Stephens, who invited Gurr to the famous Maida Vale Studios in London to play a live session. At the end of May, the duo opened the German showcase at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, UK, and played again on July 14th at the Latitude Festival in England. Gurr were also represented at the Blue Balls Festival and accompanied the German rock band Kraftklub on their No Night for Nobody Tour on a few dates in October . On November 18, 2017 Gurr played with Isolation Berlin and Love A at the 7th New Fall Festival in Düsseldorf. In autumn 2017 Gurr was nominated for the “ Prize for Pop Culture ” as the most hopeful newcomer.

In 2018 the band played at Rock am Ring , Rock im Park , Deichbrand , Melt! as well as at other indie festivals.

For the “No Night for Nobody Open Air” in the sold-out Wuhlheide in Berlin, Gurr were again confirmed as the opening act for Kraftklub and played their biggest show to date in front of 17,000 visitors.

2019: She Says

On April 5, 2019, the EP She Says was released with seven new songs. A video for She Says was published in February 2019, a video on Too late in March 2019 , a video on Fake News in April 2019 and a video on Bye Bye in May 2019 . In the video Too late did Bela B. an appearance.

In April 2019, the band played for almost three weeks in North America as the opening act for the post-punk band Priests .
