description

The bridge was opened on November 7, 1859 as part of the Dumfries – Castle Douglas – Kirkcudbright railway. Engineer John Miller junior provided the design . After the line was closed in June 1965, the tracks were removed and the viaduct has not been used since then.

There are pilasters along the pillars , which eventually lead to alternative bays for pedestrians. A cornice runs beneath the parapets, which are finished off with natural stone caps .
