Gold Hunters in Africa is an American reality TV series that was broadcast on the Discovery Channel from 2012 to 2013 . In Germany, the series can be seen on the DMAX channel .

After the two Americans George Wright and Scott Lomu lost all their savings during the financial and real estate crisis of 2008 , they see their luck in Ghana's gold deposits. On the acquired mining area (claim) gold is said to be worth over 1.5 million dollars. During their time in Ghana, Wright and Lomu face constant difficulties. Among other things, technical problems arise with their own machines. In addition, bad weather, corruption and armed para-military prevent successful gold mining.
During the course of the second season, Wright and Lomu will be wanted by an arrest warrant issued by the Minister for Land Use and Natural Resources shortly after the series' first season airs on Ghanaian television . Both are accused of prospecting for gold without permission. Since the entire Discovery Channel team is also being sought, they all decide to flee the country together. The entire team sets off towards the national border in various ways. Although Wright and Lomu always stress that they always act with the approval of the Ghanaian government, there seems to be no alternative to escape. Under Ghanaian law, the entire team could be held in prison for up to five years without reasonable suspicion.
