Goler T. Butcher Medal

The Goler T. Butcher Medal is an award given by the American Society for International Law (ASIL) in memory of Goler Teal Butcher to an outstanding personality of American or other nationality for "excellence in human rights ", in particular for Contributions to their further development or their effective implementation should be appreciated.

It was donated after Goler Teal Butcher's death in 1993 and was first awarded four years later. As a rule, the recipients are honored for their life's work or their work over their entire career, but in exceptional cases the medal can also be awarded for outstanding activities in a shorter period of time. The award takes place without a fixed cycle, multiple recipients can be selected in the same year.
