The Gulf of Fethiye is a large bay in southwestern Turkey . In the east of the Gulf is the city of the same name Fethiye and in the northwest of the city of Göcek . The Gulf coast begins at the Kapıdağı peninsula on Cape Kurdoğlu and ends south of the historic town of Kayaköy on Cape İlbis (formerly Karmylassos ) in the east. There are twelve small to medium-sized islands within the gulf, which is up to 200 meters deep. The largest islands are Domuz , Göcek , Yassıcalar , Tersane , Katrancık , Delitaş , Kızıl and Zeytin .

In ancient Greece the bay was called the Gulf of Telmessos .
