Martin Ericsson (born September 4, 1980 in Gustafs ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who has played his previous career in Sweden and Denmark, made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2004 .

Career

Career start in Sweden

Ericsson played in his youth with IF Tunabro and IK Brage . In 2001 he moved to IFK Göteborg in the Allsvenskan . Here he was a regular player right from the start and helped to reach fourth place in the table with five goals this season in his first Bundesliga season. Also in the 2002 season he was on the side of Pontus Kåmark , Jonas Henriksson , Jon Inge Høiland and Bengt Andersson to the regular formation, but slipped with the club in the relegation battle. It was only in the relegation games against local rivals Västra Frölunda IF that he managed to stay up with the club under coach Bo Johansson , who was newly signed during the season. However, he was able to convince and moved up to the circle of the national team. On January 22, 2004 he made his debut in the 3-0 loss to Norway in the Swedish national jersey.

Experience abroad in Denmark

In January 2004 Ericsson Denmark moved to Aalborg BK . He immediately established himself as a regular player at the club, which is looked after by his compatriot Erik Hamrén , and on his debut in the Superliga against Aarhus GF he scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win. At the end of 2004, his goal against Herfølge BK in October of the year in which he scored 3-0 after going it alone from his own penalty area, received the award for Goal of the Year in Denmark. At the end of the 2004/05 season he was also named Player of the Year by the Danish football magazine Tipsbladet .

In winter 2005/06 Ericsson moved on within the Superliga and went to reigning champions Brøndby IF , where he met his compatriots Johan Elmander and Marcus Lantz . After signing a four-year contract, he was given the number “10” on his back . By the end of the season he scored three goals in 13 games and thus helped to runner-up behind FC Copenhagen and thus qualify for the Royal League in 2006/07 . There he moved into the final alongside Chris Katongo , Thomas Rasmussen and Thomas Rytter and scored the decisive goal in the final against FC Copenhagen with a penalty . Although he scored nine goals in the league during the season, the club only made it to fifth place in the table. In the following year, despite seven goals this season, he was denied entry into the European Cup .

Return to Sweden

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season Ericsson lost his regular place at Brøndby IF and was mainly used as a substitute. He then moved back to Allsvenskan in December and signed a contract with IF Elfsborg . In the course of the Allsvenskan season in 2009 he was only used irregularly, as he was slowed down by several injuries, but was able to assert himself over long periods in the regular formation in the following season. In the 2011 season he played only 18 of the 30 season games, after which he switched to Gothenburg league rivals BK Häcken on loan until July 31 of that year . There he convinced and played 15 games this season for the team supervised by Peter Gerhardsson by the end of the loan period , so the club tried to find a job. Shortly before his return, the two clubs and the player came to an agreement, who finally signed a contract valid until 2015 with the club based on the island of Hisingen .
