History

In the 10th or 11th century an artificial hill was raised and a wooden castle was built on it. Gommerstedt embodies the type of castle moth , which was mainly occupied by members of the lower landed gentry .

In the 12th or 13th century, the complex was converted into a stone fortification, which was then abandoned in the late Middle Ages .

At that time there were still remains above ground.
