Gonzalo Díaz (artist)

Gonzalo Díaz (* 1947 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean concept and installation artist .

life and work

Gonzalo Díaz studied art at the Universidad de Chile from 1965 to 1969 . Díaz taught at the Universidad de Chile in 1969, at the Universidad Católica in 1974 and from 1977 to 1986 at the Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo in Santiago. In 1980 he was a participant in the University International program in Florence. There he came into contact with Francisco Smythe . He then taught again at the Universidad de Chile and was awarded the National Prize of Art of Chile in 2003.

“Gonzalo Díaz deals with the ambivalent relationship between art and power as well as the effects of political actions on society. In his works he uses language in a subtle way and questions the possibility of creating meaning in the visual arts. Díaz uses different techniques and materials in his installation works. "
