Patricia de Lille

Good (German: "Gut") is a political party founded on December 2, 2018 in South Africa . It is led by Patricia de Lille and took part in the 2019 elections for the first time .

history

Patricia de Lille was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) until October 2018 . She was mayor of the Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality for just as long . She was overthrown by her own party, which charged her with frustrating corruption charges . With her, several former members of the Independent Democrats, which were absorbed into the DA in 2004, left the DA.

On November 18, 2018, de Lille and other former DA members founded the Internet platform @forgoodza ; On December 2 of the same year, the Good Party was founded in the Johannesburg district of Houghton Estate . According to de Lille, the party had nearly 60,000 members in January.

De Lille is running for Prime Minister of the Western Cape Province in the 2019 elections in South Africa . There the party achieved its best provincial result with 3.0% and a seat in the provincial assembly . In the election to the National Assembly , Good achieved only 0.4% and thus two seats.

Structure and program

The National Leadership Committee consists of 36 members. In January 2019, de Lille was elected interim chair. Nthabiseng Lephoko was the first National Chairperson , but resigned in May because de Lille had preferred another party member to be a member of the National Assembly. Brett Herron is the general secretary .

The party emblem is an orange circle with black capital letters "GOOD"; under the two O's there are short, horizontal, white bars.

Good program items include

  • Fighting crime along the lines of Colombian cities
  • Release of state-owned land for the landless
  • Recognize informal settlements and provide them with infrastructure
  • Creating a climate for investments
