Google Pay Send (formerly: Google Wallet) is an online service from the US company Google that can be used to send and receive money electronically. Google Wallet was the successor to Google Checkout . The service was first made available on the Samsung Nexus S on September 19, 2011 .

As of January 8, 2018, Android Pay and Google Wallet have merged into a single payment system called Google Pay .

history

The predecessor Google Checkout (English for "Google Checkout") was discontinued on November 21, 2013 and replaced by Wallet. Google Checkout was first available in the US on June 28, 2006.

The service originally offered the option of paying with a mobile phone in brick-and-mortar stores. Before paying there, a PIN had to be entered on the mobile phone. The smartphone had to have a near-field communication chip. This function has now been discontinued and replaced by Android Pay .

The "Google Wallet Card"

With the "Google Wallet Card", a debit card , the wallet credit could be used to pay in all US stores that support Mastercard . Support for this card ended on June 30, 2016.

At the beginning of 2018, Google announced that the two services Android Pay and Google Wallet would be merged under the Google Pay brand in the future .

Functions

Since September 2015, Google Pay Send can be used to send or request money to other users within the United States. This is what apps for Android and iOS are available. Money can also be sent via Gmail using Google Pay Send . You can do this in the US and the UK .

You can register with a Google account and you also need to provide a debit or credit card ( Visa , Amex , Mastercard or Discover ).
