Gorilla carries a woman

Gorilla carries a woman ( Gorille enlevant une femme ) is a group sculpture by Emmanuel Frémiet from 1887. A first version with the title Gorille enlevant une négresse (Gorilla carries a negress, destroyed in 1861) caused one in the Salon of 1859 in the context of the by Charles Darwin 's theory of evolution standing scandal. For the version from 1887, which differs from the first, the artist received a medal of honor from the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français . The sculpture was one of the sources of inspiration for King Kong . The sculpture is now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes . In 2016 the plaster sculpture was on view as part of the exhibition The Surveying of the Brute in the Kunsthalle in the Lipsius Building in Dresden.
