The Goslar Gospels are a splendid manuscript from around 1240, which was very likely intended for the Neuwerk monastery in Goslar . According to art historical assessment, it was created in Goslar or the surrounding area.

The gospel book is of great artistic and historical importance due to its rich and high quality writing and painting.

It contains larger and smaller thumbnails with the following themes:

  • Gospel of Matthew (adoration of the three kings, Joseph's dream, Matthew)
  • Gospel of Mark (baptism of Christ, calling of the apostles, Mark)
  • Luke's Gospel (Luke the Evangelist, Annunciation to Zacharias, birth and naming of John the Baptist, Annunciation, Visitation, Adoration of the Shepherds)
  • Gospel of John (Christ and the Samaritan Woman, Crucifixion, John)

The Goslar Gospels are now part of the Goslar City Archives (signature B 4387) and are on display in the Goslar Museum .
