Gotham Records

Gotham Records was an American music label founded in New York in 1946 by Sam Goode (Goody) and Ivin Ballen . In January 1948, Ballen took over the shares of Goode and became the sole owner. He then moved with the company to Philadelphia , where it resided until it closed in 1956 .

The label specialized in blues , rhythm & blues and gospel . Artists who have made recordings include Dan Pickett , Stick Horse Hammond, David "Pete" McKinley, Baby Boy Warren , Jimmy Preston & The Prestonaires, Pete Martin, The Cap-Tans, Panama Francis , Eddie Cole, Earl Bostic , Tiny Grimes , Champion Jack Dupree (under the pseudonym Meat Head Johnson ), Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee , Johnny Sparrow & His Bows & Arrows, Bobby Stephenson and The Patterson Singers, Clara Ward , The Angelic Gospel Singers, The Capris and many more .
