Dan Pickett , actually James Founty (born August 31, 1907 in Pike County , Alabama , † August 16, 1967 in Boaz , Alabama), was an American blues singer and guitarist.

In 1949 he recorded a total of 20 songs for the Gotham record label in Philadelphia , ten of which were released in the same year on a total of five 78 rpm shellac records by this label. During the blues revival of the 1960s , some of his songs were first re-released on LP samplers, then in 1987 the first LP was released only with Dan Pickett titles (Krazy Kat KK 811), which was also released on CD in 1990 (Collectables VCL 5311 ). In 2006, the 18 of his recordings found so far (2 have not yet been found) were completely re-released on a CD box from the JSP label (7753).

About his life little is known more than his birth and death dates, his musical legacy, however, is by Bruce Bastin , the experts for the Blue styles and -interpreten the east coast of the United States ( " Piedmont Blues described"), as follows:

"... Dan Pickett, a superlative performer in the style of the Southeast and high on my list of most exciting bluesmen ever."
