Gottfried Lenk

Gottfried Lenk (born August 18, 1921 ; † September 28, 2004 ) was a soccer player in Zwickau and Pirmasens . With Horch Zwickau he won the first GDR soccer championship in 1950, with FK Pirmasens he was runner-up in Southwest Germany in 1954.

After ZSG Horch Zwickau had qualified in three games against SG Zeiss Jena (1: 1, 2: 2, 5: 1) for the newly established upper league of the German Sports Committee in the summer of 1949 , the squad for the first season in 1949 / 50 also the name of the 29-year-old player Gottfried Lenk. At the end of the season, the team from the Horch automobile plant prevailed as the first GDR soccer champions. Lenk played a decisive role in this with his 21 of 26 completed league games and nine goals. He then left Zwickau and joined the FK Pirmasens, which was represented in the Oberliga Südwest , one of the five highest divisions in Germany at the time. There he achieved the best result in the 1953/54 season with a 2nd place. Lenk played in Pirmasens until 1955, after which he ended his career as a competitive athlete at the age of 34.
