Gottschalk Zelion-Brandis

Gottschalk of Zelion gen. Brandis (* 1425 in Werl , † 1495 ) was a mayor of the city Werl.

Life

Gottschalk von Zelion was the son of Johann Seliol and N. Brandis.

In the position of mayor in Werl, he was head of one of the four capitals of Westphalia and thus also a member of the city curia and the state parliament . His exact term of office as mayor is not documented. At the same time, Zelion-Brandis Salzeroberst was the Werler Erbsälzer and belonged to the Werler Erbsälzer family of the same name, which inherited the fortune and name of the Brant or Brandis family towards the end of the 15th century. He was married to Adelheid von Fresendorp since 1452. Their sons were the later mayor of Werl, Heinrich von Zelion called Brandis (1453–1520) and the judge Gerhard "Gerd" von Zelion called Brandis (* 1455).
