Hempstead House

The Gould Guggenheim Estate , also known as Hempstead House , is a historic property and comprises 16 buildings, including a former mansion in Sands Point , Long Island , New York .

The castle-like house, a copy of the Irish Kilkenny Castle , was built by Howard Gould from 1902 to 1912 and is sometimes referred to as "Castle Gould". In 1917 it was acquired by Daniel Guggenheim . In 1971 his son Harry F. Guggenheim bequeathed the entire property including his country estate "Falaise" to Nassau County, which opened it to the public. Today the area is part of the "Sands Point Preserve" nature reserve.
