Skälby burial ground

The Skälby burial ground is located south of the Ölandsleden road in Skälby , near Kalmar in the province of Kalmar län in Sweden . It consists of three dome rings ( German  "judge rings" ) and a building stone . The term "Domarring" can be traced back to earlier times. The circles were associated with the jurisprudence and thought that a certain odd number of judges in the circles gave judgments.

  1. Domarring (Kalmar 10: 1) about 11.0 m in diameter, made of five (originally seven?) Stones. The stones are 1.1 to 1.45 mh, 0.85 to 1.2 m wide and 0.5 to 0.8 m thick.
  2. The building stone (Kalmar 10: 2) is a menhir about 1.15 m high, 0.9 m wide and 0.8 m thick . It stands 10 meters southwest of No. 1 and 12.0 m north of the road.
  3. Domarring (Kalmar 10: 3) about 10.0 m in diameter, with six (originally seven?) Stones. The stones are 1.2 to 1.55 m high, 0.9 to 1.3 m wide and 0.6 to 0.8 m thick.
  4. Domarring remnant (Kalmar 10: 4) about 6.0 m in diameter, with three remaining stones that are 0.95 to 1.2 m high, 1.0 to 1.2 m wide and 0.65 to 0.9 m thick.

In the immediate vicinity there are weak irregular elevations of the soil surface with 0.1 to 0.3 m large stones. They may be natural - but may also be a reference to ancient monuments that have gone out. To the east lies the Brukshagen cemetery .
