Tobias Escher

Tobias Escher (* 1988 ) is a German sports journalist , blogger and non-fiction author. He is considered one of the most prominent football journalists of the younger generation.

Escher first studied sports science and English at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover . He gained fame from June 2011 as co-founder of the award-winning football tactics blogs spielverlagerung.de . As a freelance journalist, he writes for ZEIT ONLINE , Die Welt and the football magazine 11 Freunde, among others . He analyzes the Bundesliga games on television for Sky Deutschland and on the Internet broadcaster Rocket Beans TV . The medium magazine chose Escher in 2013 under the ten best sports journalists in Germany, the industry service Meedia it recommended in 2017 as a potential successor to the ARD -Fußballexperten Mehmet Scholl .

In Rowohlt Verlag Escher published several non-fiction books on the subject; especially his debut Vom Libero zur Doppelsechs. A history of tactics in German football was met with approval by critics in 2016.

Escher has been writing weekly for Spiegel Online since 2018 . Escher's book The Key to the Game: How Modern Football Works was published on April 21, 2020 .
