The Green Market ( Estonian Roheline turg ) is a green space in the Estonian capital Tallinn (Reval).

location

It is located in the old town of Reval at the acute-angled confluence of Olevstraße (Estonian: Olevimägi ) on Langstraße ( Pikk ).

Design and history

The small green area has an approximately triangular floor plan, which is shaped by the course of the two adjacent streets. The fish market was held on the area for centuries, then in the 19th century a market mainly for vegetables and flowers, from which the name of the green area derives. The holding of markets on the area ended in 1893. Instead, a small, tree-lined green space was created. It is one of the few green spaces in the densely built-up historic old town of Reval. The small park is now used for outdoor catering.

In 1909, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Tsar Nicholas II's accession to the throne, the small Russian Orthodox chapel was built on the Green Market at the southern tip of the green area .
