Russian Orthodox Chapel on the Green Market
The Russian Orthodox Chapel at the Green Market is a Russian Orthodox chapel in the Estonian capital Tallinn (Reval).
location
It is located in Reval's old town on the Green Market (Estonian Roheline turg ) at the acute-angled confluence of Olevstrasse ( Olevimägi ) and Langstrasse ( Pikk tänav ) at Langstrasse 34a.
Design and history
The small chapel was built in 1909 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Tsar Nicholas II's accession to the throne . The design came from Nikolai Heraskow and Nikolai Thamm the Younger . The chapel was used religiously until the early 1960s, but then it was used as a telephone booth and finally as a postcard kiosk . After the kiosk was closed in the early 1990s, the chapel stood empty. In 2009 the chapel was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church.
