detail

The green grid represents the main entrance to the Sanssouci Palace Park and is located at the end of the avenue to Sanssouci. This begins as one of three radial streets on Luisenplatz . The gate was designed by Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse and was built in 1854 in connection with the construction of the Friedenskirche (Potsdam) . The name is derived from the color with which the grid is painted. As an additional decoration, individual struts and tips are finished with gold leaf . The iron grating bears the initials of Friedrich Wilhelm IV.
