Green space information system

Green space information systems are the basis for the planning, development and maintenance of green and open spaces. The range of services extends from classic applications such as green space or tree cadastre to special issues such as playground equipment and cemetery management.

A digital green space information system (GRIS) is a prerequisite for efficient green space management . A condition is a suitable and consistently managed database in the form of a green area cadastre. This not only contains all green spaces, but also their respective equipment and inventory, such as information on the area, topographical location (→ slopes, exposure), planting (→ lawns for use, meadow areas, flower borders, shrub plantings, trees). By linking it to ecological and social data, the GRIS offers the ideal basis for green space and property planning. It provides the data that reflect the open space situation of a municipality and also enables inter-municipal comparison.

In addition to the usual inventory, expenses for maintaining the systems can also be mapped and controlled in a GRIS. Since the maintenance costs for the green spaces make up approx. 80 to 90% of the costs of a green space office, this area is usually in the foreground when introducing a green space information system. In connection with the recording of expenses, the essential data for cost and performance accounting are provided in GRIS, which is the prerequisite for business management.

The GRIS can also be used to create maintenance plans and related service descriptions. This allows the dimensioning and deployment of personnel, machines and material to be planned and controlled over the course of the year. Deviations can be identified and analyzed on an ongoing basis. The history management and administrative processes, such as permits, etc. The like can be processed and documented via the GRIS.
