Grażyna Kania (born April 24, 1971 in Rzeszów , Poland ) is a Polish theater director.

Life

After graduating from high school and training at the State Technical School for Ballet Dance and Classical Singing in Gliwice (Poland) and acting training at the State University for Film, Television and Theater in Łódź (Poland), Kania came to the Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1997 to study directing “ Ernst Busch ” to Berlin.

Since 1999 she has worked as a director on both German and Polish stages, a. a. in Berlin, Weimar, Regensburg, Danzig, Bydgoszcz, Breslau, Poznan and Warsaw.

Her most important productions include: Saved by Edward Bond, The Powder Keg by Dejan Dukowski, Gespenster und Die Frau vom Meer by Henrik Ibsen, Bernarda Albas Haus by Federico Garcia Lorca, Kabale und Liebe by Friedrich Schiller, Faith, Love, and Hope by Ödön von Horvath, Woyzeck by Georg Büchner, Blackbird by David Harrower, Timm Thaler in his own adaptation after James Krüss, orphans by Dennis Kelly, visit of the old lady by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare.

Grażyna Kania has received numerous prizes and awards, including the directing award for The Powder Keg at the “Kontakt” festival in Toruń, a nomination for the most important Polish theater award “Feliks Warszawski” for directing Blackbird , a grand prize at the “Kontrapunkt” festival in Szczecin and at the festival "Wałbrzyskie Fanaberie Teatralne" for Northeast , nomination for the German Theater Prize Faust 2010 for directing by Timm Thaler .

Kania also works as a translator from German and English ( Woyzeck , Liliom , In a Dark Dark House , Haarmann , Weibsteufel , Lulu ) and as an acting lecturer at the Berlin Universities of the UdK and HfS "Ernst Busch". Since 2013 she has been teaching drama at the State University for Film, Television and Theater in Łódź (Poland). In 2018 she translated the basics of acting by Margarete Schuler and Stefanie Harrer. The book was published by the Lodz Film School.

In 2016 she received her PhD from the State University of Film, Television and Theater in Łódź as a Doctor of Arts.

Kania lives in Berlin.
