Painting in the vizier's tomb

TT100 (Theban Tomb no. 100) is the modern name for the burial chapel of the vizier Rechmire , who under Thutmose III. and Amenhotep II officiated. The chapel is in Thebes-West .

description

The chapel is carved into the rock and has a T-shaped floor plan with an open forecourt . The facility leads 25 meters into the rock. The vestibule is 20 meters wide. The main hall, which becomes higher and higher towards the rear, is unique. Most of the chapel is painted. The decoration is well preserved and is an important source of information on administration, handicrafts and trades ( metal extraction, etc.) as well as art from this period.

The more important scenes in the chapel include depictions of the mouth opening ritual , depictions of tribute-bringers from Upper Egypt and neighboring countries. What is remarkable here is the ethnographic realism, i.e. the way in which individual ethnic groups are represented. The appearance of the Minoan tribute-bringer was painted over and the Mycenaean conquest of Crete was taken into account by giving the people a Mycenaean appearance. Other representations in the grave show a banquet or the supervision of construction work and workshops.

The so-called service instruction for the vizier is a text that reports on the daily activities of the vizier. The text is also known from other graves, but is particularly well preserved here. It is one of the most important texts on Egyptian administration .

The chapel has no burial chambers . It can be assumed that the actual tomb of Rechmire is to be found elsewhere, probably in the Valley of the Kings . His chapel was used exclusively for his cult of the dead.
