Tomb of the Aschaffenburg family in the colorful garden of Mönchengladbach

It was built in 1920/21 and entered under No. P 018 on June 25, 2007 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

description

It is a grave site for multiple occupancy. It is framed by a parapet that rests on a continuous plinth made of ashlar blocks. The parapet itself consists of cubic pillars, which all differ slightly in their cross-section from the right angle, and support a parapet cover with a slightly trapezoidal cross-section. Filling elements made of riveted flat steel are set in between.

They are based on four basic types and are each used in mirror image. Every right angle is avoided with the filling elements. The natural stone parts are made of shell limestone . Instead of a free-standing tombstone, the back of the tomb shows two stone cuboids set in the parapet and each sloping towards the outer edges. The left cuboid bears the inscription made of metal letters:

HERMANN / ASCHAFFENBURG / 6 JUNE 1871/23 MARCH 1920

The object is important for human history and for cities and settlements. There are scientific, artistic, architectural and local historical reasons for its preservation and use.
