Since 1905 he was based in Ohligs, since 1909 as the owner of a toy store with 12 assistants (1930). He gave up his business in 1933. Between 1931 and 1937 he was deputy representative and later deputy head of the synagogue community in Solingen. During the night of the pogrom in November 1938, his apartment was ransacked and he and his wife were not allowed to enter it again. The couple then fled to Cologne, where Paul Steeg died in the Jewish asylum on November 11, 1938.
