Ernst Bertram was born in Solingen. Early on he had contact with the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) where he was elected head of the KJVD district management in February 1929 and in September 1929 to the central committee of the KJVD. From July 1930 he was a member of the closer Reich leadership of the KJVD. He was also the editor of the Junge Garde newspaper in Berlin. In this function he was sent to Moscow for study purposes and came via Erfurt and Düsseldorf to Leverkusen , where he was arrested in 1933 and held in protective custody in Lüttringhausen prison until December . Then he became head of the now illegal KPD in Hagen and later Wuppertal, where he tried to rebuild the party organization together with Wilhelm Reeks. He escaped being arrested again by taking over management in Bielefeld. In the D-train Berlin-Dusseldorf he was arrested in 1935 and on 22 November 1935 in Wuppertal as the main defendant in the context of the " Wuppertal union processes " because of " high treason sentenced" to 15 years in prison, which he only in the penitentiary Munster and later in prison Brandenburg- Görden spent. There he died of pulmonary tuberculosis on October 29, 1938 . | |

Hans Debus was born in Solingen in 1919. As a teenager he was already distributing pamphlets against the Nazi regime. He escaped arrest in 1937 by fleeing to Belgium, where he then joined the KPD . He was arrested at a border crossing in 1939 and transferred to Berlin-Moabit , in 1940 to the Dachau concentration camp and in 1941 to the Buchenwald concentration camp . In 1944 he managed to escape from the Deutz exhibition center . He went into hiding with his sister in Solingen, where he died of pulmonary tuberculosis in 1945 . | |

Albert Tobias was born on May 21, 1891 in Heimbach / Neuwied and lived in Cologne and Solingen. From November 17, 1938 to February 23, 1939 he was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp . He was brought from Cologne to the Litzmannstadt ghetto on October 30, 1941 and to the Kulmhof concentration camp on May 3, 1942 , where he was murdered. | |

Wilhelm Kratz was born in Solingen in 1906. As early as 1933 he was sentenced to 7 months in prison for gang theft and then fled to the Netherlands. In 1934 he was convicted of high treason and possession of weapons and put out to search. In 1935 he was illegally in Solingen to report on the Brussels conference within the KPD . In 1937, 17 Solingen citizens were sentenced to prison terms because they were close to him, including his wife Elfriede. After the attack on the Netherlands in 1942, Kratz moved to Belgium and was discovered there on January 1, 1942. During the arrest, Kratz shot and killed a police officer and a member of the Wehrmacht, injuring himself. On August 31, Kratz was sentenced to four deaths by the Essen Special Court and executed by guillotine on October 5, 1942 in the Klingelpütz police prison in Cologne. | |

Karl Meisenbach was born in Solingen in 1889. He was sentenced to one year in prison for refusing to give orders to shoot Jews and then sent to a punishment company for 4 years for degrading military strength . After his desertion, he was sentenced to death by the Metz court martial on December 11, 1942 , and executed as a deserter in Metz on January 4, 1943 . | |
