Attractions

The Gothic cathedral was built between 1284 and 1359; In addition to frescoes that are worth seeing , you can also admire an organ from the 16th century and a crypt from the Romanesque period.

The Castle of Spenge Berger - of this generation stems also the name of the city here - includes a number of buildings from different eras. Parts of the facade are decorated with frescoes, which is why the castle is nicknamed "Palazzo dipinto" (painted palace).

The city was under Habsburg rule from 1278 to 1509 .

The mosaic school

Ancient mosaic techniques are taught in the mosaic school. The history of local mosaic art goes back to the end of the 17th century when stonemasons and floor layers from the villages around Spilimbergo worked on the construction sites in Venice . The institute makes mosaics that decorate airports, universities, royal palaces and cathedrals. A collection of cardboard boxes and mosaic work is kept in the institute.
