Attractions

  • The parish church of St. Nicholas , built between 1889 and 1897 according to plans by the Gemonese architect Girolamo d'Aronco , as a replacement for the previous church from the 15th century, which was expanded and reworked several times in the 17th and 18th centuries, ultimately However, it was torn down because it no longer offered enough space for the population. The portal and a few other traces on the north side have been preserved from the old building to the present day. The choir frescoes are from 1947 by Alfredo Carnelutti from Gemones and depict Christ the King and other figures of saints. The marble high altar with side statues of Saints Nicholas and John the Baptist is important , but the side altars from the 18th century are even more interesting: the right has an altar with the Pentecost on, painted by Antonio Taddei from Raveo in 1846, which on the to similar representations of Amalteo and Agosini reminiscent of the 16th century; the other, the rosary altar, is due to the artist Francesco Aloj di Gemona from 1787 and cost a good 600 ducats, which amount of money - as can be read in the document - by the pious women of Amaro and thanks to the laborious work of hay and Transport of timber from the Amariana mountain. The bell tower, on the other hand, dates from 1933, built to replace the previous tower that was demolished in 1925.
  • The Church of St. Valentine is a simple building from the 18th century, where originally there was a portico under a facade turret. It contains only an altar , erected by Francesco Altoi of Gemona in 1778, which contains an altarpiece with Saints Valentine, Blaise, Madonna and Child and Angels by an unidentified Udine artist (possibly Giovanni Antonio Agostini , who at that time in the Carnic region was very active). On the wall in the entrance area there are two paintings from the 18th century with depictions of the Annunciation , which come from the parish church .
  • The Chapel of Maina , by the 1976 earthquake badly damaged, but was by the mountain troops of the ANA restored and re-consecrated in 1984th Inside it contains the white marble altar (1829) with a fresco of the Madonna and Child , a gleaming proof of the typical handwriting of the painting of the 16th century.
  • The waterfall of the torrent Favarinis , which plunges several dozen meters into a gorge of Mount Amariana. To get there, take the road towards the train station of Carnia (a district of Venzone ) and before the viaduct over the Fella , turn left onto the road to Campiolo. At the bridge of the Favarinis torrent, follow a path to the creek bed.
  • The small lake of Cison is ideal for sport fishing or for a quiet hike on its shores, where you can watch beautiful swans and relatives gliding on the water. The lake can be reached by following a path from the state road that leads directly past the old Rainis mill.

economy

Today Amaro has a busy industrial, craft and commercial zone. This settlement is favored by the geographic location of the municipality, which acts as the “gateway” to Carnia and benefits from its proximity to an important road link ( A23 motorway maintenance office, Carnia- Tolmezzo exit ). To support and provide impetus for the development of the whole of Carnia and the mountain region, Amaro has become the seat of the Agemont agency, which is responsible for the mountain area.

In 2003, the first and so far only shopping center in Carnia was opened with a supermarket and various shops, which, however, have suffered from poor management. On the other hand, the activities in the IT sector , where a leading company in this business area is active, have shown greater success , and future projects will see the creation of a technology pole that exactly suits Amaro.
