Zuglio ( Furlanisch Zui ) is a northeastern Italian municipality ( comune ) in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region with 570 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The community is located about 60 kilometers north of Udine in Carnien am But and belongs to the Comunità Montana della Carnia .

history

The current settlement rests on the ancient Roman community Iulium Carnicum from the first century BC. A Roman consecration stone with the name of the Celtic tribes of the Saevaten and Laiancer was found here. From 381 to 480 there was a diocese ( Iulium Carnicum ) here. Since 1967 it has been the titular bishopric Iulium Carnicum .
