Artegna (German historically: Ardingen ) is a municipality southeast of Gemona del Friuli , north of Udine in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region with 2885 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
The neighboring municipalities are Buja , Gemona del Friuli , Magnano in Riviera , Montenars and Treppo Grande .
In 1976 Friuli , located in an earthquake-prone area, was hit by an earthquake whose epicenter was between Gemona del Friuli and Osoppo .
A partnership agreement exists with the municipality of Breitenbach SO (Switzerland). After the Second World War , many men from Artegna found work there. The ISOLA-Werke in Breitenbach even sent a delegation in 1956 to recruit "Arteniesi".

Pope visit
On May 3, 1992, Pope John Paul II visited Artegna and gave his blessing to the population. To commemorate this event, a year later a blue-gray marble plaque with an inscription and a Pope medallion was attached to a house at the foot of the castle hill.
