Vajont ( Furlanisch Vaiont ) is a municipality with 1688 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia . The parish was built for the survivors of the Longarone disaster about 50 kilometers southeast of the site of the disaster and inaugurated in 1971. The flooding, which killed around 2,000 people, was triggered by a landslide on Monte Toc that caused the Vajont reservoir to overflow.
The area of the municipality is at an altitude of 287 m and covers an area of 1.58 km² . Neighboring municipalities are Maniago and Montereale Valcellina .
