Ruda (also Rude in the Furlan dialect ) is a north-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2859 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region . The municipality is located about 28 kilometers south-southeast of Udine . The Isonzo forms part of the municipal boundary .

Ruda from the air

Ruda (originally Riuda ) was founded in the 7th or 8th century. First destroyed by the Hungarians, the community was rebuilt by the Crusaders. The municipality was part of the county of Gorizia and Gradisca until the end of the First World War , and was subordinate to the judicial district of Cervignano , which in turn was part of the district of Monfalcone .

The former Strada Statale 351 di Cervignano (now a regional road) runs through the municipality from Cervignano del Friuli to Gorizia .
