Marano Lagunare (Furlanic Maran ) is a small town and fishing port in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region not far from Grado with 1782 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

It originated in 81 BC. As a legion town. In 1543 Marano was conquered by Venice. Today nothing can be seen of the former fortress walls of Marano, they were still there at the end of the 19th century. The Venetian language is still spoken in the city , although the province of Udine is Friulian- speaking . The municipality's website is trilingual: Italian, Venetian by Marano and English.

The center of Marano is the square called “Granda”, which is dominated by a tower that is more than 1000 years old.
