Pomponio Amalteo (* 1505 in Motta di Livenza , † March 9, 1588 in San Vito al Tagliamento ) was an Italian painter .

life and work

Without being a particular genius, the artist proves in his creations a diligent imitation of his teacher Giovanni Antonio da Pordenone , whose grandiose style in the design of the form appears to the student at times exaggerated and only externally captured. Titian also seems to have served him as a model.

In 1533 and 1534 he painted several large figures of saints in the Cathedral of San Vito, and biblical and Roman historical images in the town hall ( loggia ) of Ceneda . Works by him are in Santa Maria de 'Battuti in San Vito al Tagliamento, Prodolone and in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata in Udine .

His brother Girolamo and his daughter Quintilia also devoted themselves to art; the former produced artful miniatures, the latter also plastic works.
