Werner Pierchalla

Werner Pierchalla (born January 1, 1922 in Königshütte / Silesia, today: Chorzów ; † August 12, 2020 ) was a German politician (CDU) and lawyer . He was Lord Mayor of Münster from 1972 to 1984.

Life

Growing up in Breslau, he passed his Abitur there in 1941 and was a Soviet prisoner of war from 1943 to 1949. The move to Halle / Westphalia followed. From 1950 Pierchalla studied law in Münster and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD . In 1957 he became a judge at the regional court , but then switched to financial administration .

In 1961 he became a member of the Münster city ​​council for the CDU , and from 1969 parliamentary group chairman. Werner Pierchalla was Lord Mayor of Münster from October 2, 1972 to October 17, 1984 .

During his term of office, the implementation of the municipal reorganization ( territorial reform ) of January 1, 1975, which he had helped to prepare, fell. He was also involved in the construction of new city districts such as Münster-Kinderhaus , in the development and implementation of the general traffic plan, but also in the integration of the ever-growing university, the clinics and the technical colleges in an orderly urban development. Pierchalla was particularly committed to establishing new and maintaining existing city partnerships. During his term of office, Rishon le Zion in Israel, the Tunisian Monastir and the American Fresno became new twin cities of Münster.

Pierchalla has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association KDStV Winfridia (Breslau) Münster in the CV since 1978 .
