Jörg Twenhöven (born July 18, 1941 in Bigge ) is a CDU politician. He was from 1984 to 1994 Mayor of the city of Münster and 1995-2007 President of the Government of the governmental district of Münster .

biography

After graduating from the Benedictine grammar school in Meschede , Twenhöven studied history, philosophy, journalism and law in Münster and Friborg ( Switzerland ). He graduated from the latter with a Swiss licentiate in 1966 and obtained his doctorate in 1972. jur. utr.

In Friborg he became a member of the KStV Carolingia-Friborg in the Cartel Association of Catholic German Student Associations (KV).

In 1969 he became a full-time lecturer at the Catholic Social Academy Franz-Wärme-Haus in Münster.

Twenhöven began his career in party politics in 1964 when he joined the CDU . In 1968 he took over the district chairmanship of the Junge Union Münster. From 1970 he was a member of the district executive committee of the CDU Münster. 1972 the chairmanship of the CDU local union Münster-Coerde followed . In 1985 Twenhöven became a member of the NRW state executive committee of the CDU and from 1990 to 1996 chaired the CDU's local political association in North Rhine-Westphalia .

On the local political side, he began as a knowledgeable citizen in the City Council of Munster in 1969. He became a member of the council in 1975. At the same time, he took on the role of spokesman for cultural policy for the CDU parliamentary group and became chairman of the cultural committee.

His election as Lord Mayor of the City of Münster in 1984 was followed by re-election in 1989. During his term of office, various projects were carried out, such as the construction of the Münster City Museum and Münster City Library . Twenhöven set the tone for the inner expansion of the city. This includes, for example, the promotion of cycling and waste policy. The city anniversary of 1200 years of Münster also fell during his term of office . After the election defeat in 1994 he became first mayor. In 1990 and 1995 he received a mandate in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament.

Twenhöven had been the district president and thus head of the Münster district government since 1995 . Twenhöven's successor was Peter Paziorek since September 2007 .

In November 2004 Jörg Twenhöven was elected President at the regional assembly of the DRK -Landesverband Westfalen-Lippe in Schmallenberg -Bad Fredeburg.

Twenhöven is married and has four children.
