Coerde is a district (residential area) in the northern district of the city of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Geographical location

Today's district “Coerde” of the city of Münster is defined as follows: The southern border is the inner city area of the city of Münster between the Münster Zentrum-Nord train station and the bridge of the Schiffahrter Damm over the Dortmund-Ems Canal above the lock in the Rumphorst district . From this point on, the canal to the north is also the eastern border. In the north, Coerde is bounded by the central landfill , and further by the Coermühle road to Münsterschen Aa . In the west, the border runs along the Münsterschen Aa, the Kinderbach and the Münster - Gronau railway line . The industrial area at the Kleimannbrücke east of the Dortmund-Ems Canal is regarded as part of Coerde, but is assigned to the statistical district 76 “Gelmer-Dykburg” in the east district .

The boundaries of the Coerde district, which was incorporated into the city of Münster in 1956, differ from this. Its southern border ran from the Münster - Rheine railway just south of the Rumphorst house along today's Telemannstraße and Hacklenburg roads to the Dortmund-Ems Canal. The western boundary was formed by the course of the Münsterschen Aa before straightening up to the level of the approach to Haus Nevinghoff in the south, then followed it to the east, turned briefly to the south, and then joined the Münster - Rheine railway line.

structure

Coerde can be roughly divided into four parts:

  • West of the street Coerheide is the small settlement (Alt-) Coerde, which was built immediately after the Second World War , as well as multi-family houses in row construction from the 1950s on the streets Eichhornweg , Marderweg and Nerzweg . Most of the houses in this area were built before the incorporation into Münster and the settlement construction in the 1960s.
  • The district (Neu-) Coerde joins east of the street Coerheide. It was built between 1962 and 1970 and consists of a mixture of single-family row houses, multi-family houses in a row construction and individual high-rise buildings. In the center is the district center "Coerdemarkt", which opened in 1966, with a Catholic and Protestant parish church, supermarkets, smaller shops, a lawyer, savings bank and medical practices.
  • The industrial area at the Kleimannbrücke east of the Dortmund-Ems Canal with commercial operations, services, retail chains and leisure facilities.
  • A modern residential area is located in the southeast. This consists of new apartments as well as fundamentally converted former barracks buildings. Coerdestiege , Allensteiner Straße and An der Meerwiese are new family-friendly houses. A new residential area is currently being built to the west of Hohen Heckenweg.

history

Coerde was first mentioned in the 11th century in a document from Castle Cappenberg. At that time Coerde was still called Curithi when Bishop Siegfried von Walbeck consecrated a church here. This first church was donated by the noble Reginmod, the wife of the murdered Wichmann III. and her daughter Vrederuna. Between 1020 and 1030 they donated seven churches in the Münsterland. One of them in Curithi (Coerde). It was at the first mention to the present house Coerde, main courtyard of the former peasantry Coerde, so the courts right of Munster Aa between the peasantry Kemper in the south, the Wöstebach the north and the large heath Coerheide and Gelmerheide the east.

The parish rights of the church on Haus Coerde remained limited to the area of this farm, however, the formation of a separate parish, which should include the farmers Coerde, Uppenberg, Sandrup, Sprakel, Gittrup, Gelmer, Fuestrup, Dorbaum and Laxten, did not come about. Bishop Hermann I set up the Liebfrauen-Überwasser collegiate church in 1040 , and Bishop Friedrich von Wettin set up the St. Mauritz collegiate church in 1070 , to which the Coerde farmers were also assigned. It was not until 1908 that it was changed to the parish Kinderhaus, which was planned as early as 1803.

When living space in Münster became scarce in the 1950s, new districts were planned. One of these districts was to be built in the area of Coerheide, which was incorporated in 1956. Between 1962 and 1970 the new district of Coerde was created on the drawing board. 2,371 apartments for around 7,500 people were built. At the same time, the entire infrastructure had to be built, such as the Coerdemarkt that opened in 1966 .

The area of the Catholic parish of St. Norbert Coerde consists of parts of the parishes of Dykburg and Kinderhaus. In 1964 the church became independent as a parish rectorate, and in 1965 the parish was raised. The construction of the St. Norbert Church was consecrated in 1966. In 2008 the St. Norbert congregation was merged with the St. Thomas More congregation to form the newly founded St. Franziskus congregation. The two Catholic parish churches will be preserved. At the end of the 1960s, the evangelical Andreas parish initially received a kindergarten with a church barrack. Between 1974 and 1982 the new community center with church followed according to plans by the architect Lothar Kallmeyer . In 1986 a bell tower was added and the church gradually received window designs by the artist Johannes Schreiter .
