Friedrich I (* around 1020 ; † April 18, 1084 ) was a son of Margrave Dietrich I and brother of Margrave Dedo II and Count Thimo von Wettin . His exact date of birth is unknown. Friedrich I was the 16th bishop of Münster from 1064 until his death in 1084.

Together with the future Archbishop of Cologne , Anno von Steßlingen , he attended school in Paderborn . After that he was one of the canons of Magdeburg Cathedral . In the end he held the post of provost there . In the years 1060 to 1063 he was appointed chancellor to the court of King Henry IV and his mother Agnes of Poitou . After his failed election as Archbishop of Magdeburg, he was invested in the spring of 1064 as Bishop of Münster. Friedrich failed because of the objection of Archbishop Anno, who enforced his brother Werner (Archbishop of Magdeburg from 1063 to 1079). In the conflict between the Saxon nobility and Henry IV, Bishop Friedrich took an opposing stance towards his brothers Dedo, Thimo and Gero . During the siege of the Harzburg in 1073, he negotiated with two other negotiators on behalf of the king between the warring parties. In 1075 he mediated between the Archbishop of Magdeburg and the king in order to make peace with him. In January 1076, together with other bishops in Worms, he demanded the removal of Pope Gregory VII. For this reason, the suspension was imposed on him , which was only lifted in Trebur in autumn (October) of the same year . In 1083, according to a letter from Archbishop Siegwin of Cologne, he is still counted among the supporters of the king.
