The Südviertel is a district, or in the official parlance living area, of the Westphalian city of Münster . It belongs to the core area of the city and is therefore part of the Mitte district . From a functional point of view, it is relatively distinctly divided into two parts: The north-western part of the southern quarter, traditionally mainly inhabited by working-class families, is still a densely populated residential area, while the south-eastern part is industrial due to its proximity to the former freight station.

Since the south quarter is a historically grown quarter that does not belong to the official districts of the city of Münster, its demarcation is not clearly defined. In a publication by the Südviertel office, the term "Südviertel" covers the area that extends over the three official districts of Josef, Geist and Alter Schützenhof. In the north, the southern quarter borders the old town along Moltkestrasse / Hafenstrasse. In the east there is a clear border through the railway and the former freight station. In the south the bypass road forms the dividing line to the neighboring Düesbergviertel and in the west the south quarter is separated from the districts of Aaseestadt and Pluggendorf by Weseler Straße. The center of the district is the Josephskirche with the adjoining Südpark on the main traffic axis, Hammer Straße ( Bundesstraße 54 ).
